These tariffs are a tax on all foreign-assembled cars and aim to protect manufacturers that produce their vehicles in the USA. What Are Tariffs?

These tariffs went into effect in May of 2025, so unless the manufacturer is temporarily absorbing the new cost on behalf of the customers, all pricing you see is already impacted. While far from ideal, several popular cars are produced in the US, so not all models are affected. 

How Do Tariffs Impact Car Prices

Tariffs aren’t limited to just the automotive industry, though. We’ve also seen tariffs on steel, aluminum, and electronics. So even if your vehicle is assembled in the USA, imports of materials like those listed above may raise prices, even if they aren’t directly affected by automotive tariffs. These tariffs have also increased market uncertainty, as policies continue to change. In times like these, if you see a good deal, it might not be around long.
