A Step-by-Step Guide
Follow these directions to properly inflate your tires and take on Edmond roads, safely:
- Go to your local gas station and find the air dispenser.
- Place your vehicle in the proper position to be able to reach all four tires.
- On the first tire, remove the cap from the tire valve.
- Use the tire gauge to check the air pressure in the tire.
- For each of your tires, repeat this process.
The tire pressure may expand because if you drive to the gas station the heat will cause expansion. The air hose gauge may not be 100% reliable because of this. You really want to avoid overinflating your tires. In short bursts, slowly add air to the tires, and only top up what you lost before going to the dispenser. - Don’t inflate your tires to the psi given on the actual tire. The number on the side of your tire indicates the maximum amount of pressure the tire can hold — this is not the recommended psi.
- The ride quality is usually worse, bouncy and the car is harder to handle when your tires are overinflated.
- Underinflated tires can speed up your tires’ wear and tear.
