Looking for the best compact SUV for your commute? The Bob Moore Auto Group has you covered. Our neighbors often compare the 2019 Mazda CX-5 vs. Nissan Rogue, and since both vehicles have so much to offer the drivers near Dallas, it shouldn’t be difficult to see why. With that said, each will certainly appeal to a different sort of driver. Find out which is right for you by reading on!

Performance and Poise: Mazda CX-5 vs. Nissan Rogue

The Mazda CX-5 is widely recognized as one of the top-performing models in the segment. Although the Rogue engine does slightly better on gas mileage, the Mazda surpasses its competitor in just about every other conceivable way:

  • The base CX-5 engine offers more horsepower and torque than the only available Rogue engine. The Mazda is also available with two additional engines: a turbocharged 2.5-liter I4, and a new turbocharged diesel engine that’s been optimized for towing.
  • The Nissan Rogue is a lightweight crossover that handles itself well on the roads near Edmond. However, it just can’t compare to the nimble and athletic CX-5.
  • i-ACTIV AWD® is available on all CX-5 configurations, but it’s standard on the top two trim levels. The Nissan Rogue also offers all-wheel drive, but it isn’t standard on any trim.

Nissan or Mazda: Dimensions and Practicality

As we noted above, drivers who’d like to maximize their fuel economy might be justified in choosing the Rogue over the CX-5. This initial edge in practicality only grows once we start to compare these models’ cabins. Here are some of the key differences and similarities to be aware of:

  • Both the Rogue and the CX-5 seat five passengers, and with 103.6 cubic feet and 105.8 cubic feet, respectively, they offer roughly identical amounts of passenger space.
  • Although the CX-5 manages to offer about two more inches of rear legroom, the Nissan Rogue has a dramatic advantage when it comes to transporting cargo.
  • In the Rogue, you’ll have access to 39.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats up, and 70 cubic feet when they’re flat. The CX-5 falls short with just 30.9 cubic feet behind the second row, and up to 59.6 cubic feet at max.
  • Upper-level Rogue trims include a hands-free power liftgate. Although a power liftgate is available for the CX-5, the latter doesn’t offer any hands-free option.

With all this said, drivers who plan to do much towing will be much happier behind the wheel of the Mazda. With the available turbo diesel engine, your capacity will top out at 3,500 pounds. That’s more than triple the maximum towing capacity of the Rogue.
