Service Tips & Tricks

From Bob Moore Auto Group

A vehicle is one of the biggest investments that one makes during their lifetime. To ensure that it lasts for a long time, you need to keep up with its routine maintenance. Proper maintenance does more than protect your vehicle, it also helps protect everyone who gets inside the vehicle. Our team at Bob Moore Auto Group believes that a well-taken care of vehicle is a safe one, which is why we are eager to provide our customers with top-of-the-line service in our service departments as well as maintenance tips and tricks.

The Basics of Routine Vehicle Maintenance

Routine maintenance is somewhat of a broad term, so let’s narrow down which components of your vehicle need to be checked regularly.

  • Oil Checks and Changes: Your engine needs the proper amount and quality of oil to run. Without oil, your engine will fail which will result in expensive repairs. A good rule of thumb is to check your oil monthly and go in for an oil change as directed by your vehicle’s manual.
  • Tire Care: Your tires need to be in good shape for your vehicle to be safe to drive. Tire maintenance includes air pressure checks which involve using a tire pressure gauge to measure the PSI. You also need to rotate your tires every 5,000 to 10,000 miles or as directed by your vehicle’s manual.
  • Brake Checks: There are multiple components that make up the brake system, and they all need to be in good shape to give you proper stopping power. It is recommended to regularly check your brake pads and pay attention to signs of brake damage like brake noises or unusual vibrations while braking.
  • Light Tests: It is not always easy to notice when your lights go dim or go out completely. Lights that are not working properly are a safety hazard and can result in a ticket. Cleaning the lenses and replacing the bulbs as needed will help you avoid problems with your headlights and brake lights.
  • Fluid Upkeep: Fluid can refer to power steering fluid, your engine’s oil, brake fluid, coolant, or transmission fluid. All of these fluids need to be kept at the proper level for your vehicle to run smoothly.
  • Windshield Wipers: It is not uncommon for windshield wipers to wear down or break over time. You can inspect them regularly and replace them as needed to maintain proper visibility during rain or snowstorms.

Other Maintenance Tips

When it comes to vehicle maintenance, you can never be too prepared or thorough. We recommended keeping a record of any checks or repairs performed on your vehicle. This will make it easier to diagnose any issues that may arise in the future. Studying your owner’s manual is another great way to get familiar with your vehicle and its needs. Lastly, keeping a few basic tools like jumper cables in your trunk will give you extra peace of mind out on the road.
